Celery seed
Scientific name: Apium graveolens
Whole plant including seeds, are spicy, carminative, diuretic, appetizer, stimulant, hypotensive, aphrodisiac, anti-inflammatory, and laxative.
Hydro alcohol extract of celery seed has been reported to exhibit anti-inflammatory and anti-nociceptive activity.
Major flavonoids which are anti-inflammatory agents: Apiin, Apigenin
Apiin inhibits nitrite production, and apigenin, as an antioxidant, suppresses the production of hydrogen peroxide and anti-immunoglobin E-induced histamine release.
These flavonoids may inhibit cycloxygenase-2 (COX-2) activity.
Juniper
Scientific name: Juniper communis L.
The berries, containing essential oil, have potential diuretic, vasorelaxing, and antioxidant, anti-fungal, antiviral and anti-inflammatory properties.
Omega-3
The three main omega-3 fatty acids are: Alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), Eicosatetraenoic acid (EPA) and Docosahexaenoic acid (DHA).
Beneficial effects include:
• Reduced number of swollen joints
• Decreased pain and time to fatigue
• Decreased taking of non-steroidal Anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs)
